Set up & use Story Settings
Build reusable story templates — setting, hero, and villain — then apply them to campaigns and keep them in sync.

Story Settings wrap your campaign in a narrative — a setting, a hero, and a villain — so the content feels like an adventure instead of a worksheet. A StorySettings template is reusable; when you apply it to a campaign, a copy (the CampaignStory) is embedded into that campaign, and the campaign keeps a link back so you can re-sync later.
Two ways in
The everyday path is per-campaign: open a campaign’s edit sheet and attach a story (any campaign-admin can do this). There’s also a standalone library for managing templates on their own — that library is currently system-admin only. This page covers both; most Game Masters will use the per-campaign flow.
Build a story template
-
Open the Story Settings library (admin)
System admins open the standalone manager from the navigation drawer’s Story Settings entry — the Manage Story Settings dialog lists your templates, each with Edit/Delete, plus a Create New Story Settings button.

Create a new story and pick an Inspiration
Tap Create New Story Settings (or Create New Story from the campaign flow). Choose an Inspiration — Cursed Realm, Forbidden Secrets, Dragon Hoard, Perilous Expedition, or Custom. The inspiration picks your authoring mode: Guided (Mad Libs) composes the story from fill-in slots, while Custom exposes freeform fields (Setting Name, Setting Description, Hero Title, Hero Motivation, Boss Name, Boss Description, tone & era). A Surprise Me button fills the slots for you.

Save the template
Save. The template joins your library and becomes selectable whenever you create or edit a campaign.
Apply a story to a campaign
-
Attach the story from the campaign sheet
In a campaign’s edit sheet, open the Story Settings section. When creating, tap Include Story; when editing, tap Create or Link Story Settings. The picker opens (titled Select Story or Connect Story) — choose a template and tap Select / Connect.

Edit or unlink later
On a linked campaign, the story card’s ⋮ menu offers Edit and Unlink. Unlinking confirms first (“Unlink Story Settings?”) and only clears the link — the template itself is never deleted and can be re-linked.

Sync when a template changes
If you edit a template after a campaign has diverged from it, the builder shows a Template Updated chip. Open Sync from Template to review per-group differences (setting, story arc, aesthetics, boss, characters) and copy them over individually or all at once. Campaigns that haven’t diverged update silently.

Ownership & access
Templates are owned by their creator — you can only edit or delete your own (“You can only update/delete your own story settings.”). Applying a story to a campaign requires campaign-admin rights on that campaign. Grounding AI generation on a story additionally requires the Patron tier or higher, but authoring and attaching a story does not.
